While 7 mi north of fernandina airport I called unicom for an advisory. Unicom said 'aerobatics going on west side of runway 31, stay east of centerline'. So I made right hand traffic for runway 31 in accordance with far 91.3(B). The airport has standard left hand traffic usually. There were no NOTAMS when I got a WX briefing earlier. After making right hand traffic for runway 31 I landed and an FAA person came up and wrote my north number, license and medical down for violation of 91.89(a,1). I feel the unicom gave a wrong advisory and should have known what to do or a NOTAM should be out on it.

Title: GA SMA ADVISED BY UNICOM TO STAY EAST OF FIELD DUE TO AEROBATICS PRACTICE WEST OF RWY MAKES RIGHT HAND PATTERN VERSUS STANDARD LEFT HAND PATTERN AND IS VIOLATED BY FAA INSPECTOR ON FIELD.
Narrative: WHILE 7 MI N OF FERNANDINA ARPT I CALLED UNICOM FOR AN ADVISORY. UNICOM SAID 'AEROBATICS GOING ON WEST SIDE OF RWY 31, STAY EAST OF CENTERLINE'. SO I MADE RIGHT HAND TFC FOR RWY 31 IN ACCORDANCE WITH FAR 91.3(B). THE ARPT HAS STANDARD LEFT HAND TFC USUALLY. THERE WERE NO NOTAMS WHEN I GOT A WX BRIEFING EARLIER. AFTER MAKING RIGHT HAND TFC FOR RWY 31 I LANDED AND AN FAA PERSON CAME UP AND WROTE MY N NUMBER, LICENSE AND MEDICAL DOWN FOR VIOLATION OF 91.89(A,1). I FEEL THE UNICOM GAVE A WRONG ADVISORY AND SHOULD HAVE KNOWN WHAT TO DO OR A NOTAM SHOULD BE OUT ON IT.
