Narrative:

I called bos clearance delivery after listening to ATIS and getting clearance for air carrier light transport from bos to acy. In the bos ATIS broadcast it said 'in reading back your ATC clearance, read back only your callsign and transponder code.' I was given logan vi, maintain 5000' expect 14000 in 10 mins and squawk code XXXX.' I read back my callsign and code. Upon being handed over to departure control after departing runway 09, we were just about 1000' turning right to heading 180 degree, and ATC asked what altitude I had been assigned. I told him 5000'. He said that my clearance should have only been to 3000'. It did not pose a conflict with traffic, but ATC said that it might have. I feel that if I had read back the full clearance, the controller-trainee would have caught the mistake.
