Narrative:

After departure; while passing through 5;000 to 7;000 ft (approximate); the flight attendant called the cockpit and stated that [a] passenger had brought a fluid leak from the trailing edge of the wing to the flight attendant's attention. We declared an emergency due to leaking fuel and requested crash fire rescue equipment. All pertinent emergency and normal checklists were read and complied with. After landing; crash fire rescue equipment inspected the runway as well as the aircraft and reported that the aircraft was safe to taxi to the gate. The flight was continued with a new aircraft.

Title: EMB-145 Captain reported that a passenger noticed a fuel leak after takeoff. The flight declared an emergency and returned to departure airport.

Narrative: After departure; while passing through 5;000 to 7;000 FT (approximate); the Flight Attendant called the cockpit and stated that [a] passenger had brought a fluid leak from the trailing edge of the wing to the Flight Attendant's attention. We declared an emergency due to leaking fuel and requested CFR. All pertinent emergency and normal checklists were read and complied with. After landing; CFR inspected the runway as well as the aircraft and reported that the aircraft was safe to taxi to the gate. The flight was continued with a new aircraft.
