Narrative:

Just prior to the FAF ILS; we lowered the landing gear. Both mains showed down and locked but the nose gear did not. EICAS showed 'gear disagree' and 'gear doors.' we also got a 'gear doors light.' we cycled the gear and got the same indications. We then did a go around; complied with the QRH; called dispatch and talked to maintenance control. I declared an emergency; as a precaution; even though we got the nose gear to finally lock down. We then landed uneventfully.
