Narrative:

Given clearance by ZMA to cross stoop intersection at 6000'. Approximately 2 mi north of stoop, descending through 6200', visual contact established with a light, single-engine aircraft. Aircraft was approximately 6000, opposite direction. We were leveling off at 6000'. Estimate horizontal separation at approximately 500'. Aircraft was sighted in time so as not to need evasive maneuvers. No traffic was reported by center. We were handed off to pbi approach approximately 30 seconds after passing aircraft. Reported near miss to center after landing.
