Narrative:

I was in the flight deck checking the weather for the return trip to ZZZ; after having completed the exterior preflight inspection; when one of the flight attendant's called me to check the left wing. I went out and saw fuel being vented out of the left wing tip. I ran downstairs and started shouting to stop fueling. The firefighters were called and took care of the spill. I checked with the fuelers and they said that they had all switches selected on auto. We departed about 30-minutes late without any further complications.
