Narrative:

I was practicing crosswind landing touch and goes on runway 21 (runway length 4400'). 5 lndgs were achieved uneventfully. Then wind shifted. There was another aircraft in the pattern doing touch and goes in front of me. We changed runway landing to runway 3. The sun was in my eyes. I became preoccupied to keep close eye on the aircraft ahead of me in the pattern to avoid midair collision. He was on final and I was on downwind. I forgot to drop the gear down because of this preoccupation with other traffic. There was no warning gear lights or horn. I reduced power on final to show airspeed. The first indication that I landed gear up was the squawking noise of the bottom strips in contact with the asphalt of the runway. I landed in the centerline of the runway 3 and the airplane came to a stop in the centerline about 700' from T/D. Inspection revealed no damage to the wings or the control surfaces. The problem blade rotated about 3 times, then stopped. There was very minimal damage to the airplane. I was not injured. Engine stopped. No fire. ELT was not activated. The reasons that incident occurred are: preoccupation with other traffic (sun was in my eye and aircraft was disappearing in skyline on and off), no warning gear up light on horn occurred (micro switch near adjustment so when throttle is reduced to below 14' manifold pressure warning light occurs), malfunction of the back up automatic gear extension system of small aircraft in spite of multiple trial of repairs and adjustments in the past, and non compliance on my part to go with landing checklist due to preoccupation with traffic.

Title: GA SMA LNDG GEAR UP.

Narrative: I WAS PRACTICING XWIND LNDG TOUCH AND GOES ON RWY 21 (RWY LENGTH 4400'). 5 LNDGS WERE ACHIEVED UNEVENTFULLY. THEN WIND SHIFTED. THERE WAS ANOTHER ACFT IN THE PATTERN DOING TOUCH AND GOES IN FRONT OF ME. WE CHANGED RWY LNDG TO RWY 3. THE SUN WAS IN MY EYES. I BECAME PREOCCUPIED TO KEEP CLOSE EYE ON THE ACFT AHEAD OF ME IN THE PATTERN TO AVOID MIDAIR COLLISION. HE WAS ON FINAL AND I WAS ON DOWNWIND. I FORGOT TO DROP THE GEAR DOWN BECAUSE OF THIS PREOCCUPATION WITH OTHER TFC. THERE WAS NO WARNING GEAR LIGHTS OR HORN. I REDUCED PWR ON FINAL TO SHOW AIRSPD. THE FIRST INDICATION THAT I LANDED GEAR UP WAS THE SQUAWKING NOISE OF THE BOTTOM STRIPS IN CONTACT WITH THE ASPHALT OF THE RWY. I LANDED IN THE CENTERLINE OF THE RWY 3 AND THE AIRPLANE CAME TO A STOP IN THE CENTERLINE ABOUT 700' FROM T/D. INSPECTION REVEALED NO DAMAGE TO THE WINGS OR THE CONTROL SURFACES. THE PROB BLADE ROTATED ABOUT 3 TIMES, THEN STOPPED. THERE WAS VERY MINIMAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE. I WAS NOT INJURED. ENG STOPPED. NO FIRE. ELT WAS NOT ACTIVATED. THE REASONS THAT INCIDENT OCCURRED ARE: PREOCCUPATION WITH OTHER TFC (SUN WAS IN MY EYE AND ACFT WAS DISAPPEARING IN SKYLINE ON AND OFF), NO WARNING GEAR UP LIGHT ON HORN OCCURRED (MICRO SWITCH NEAR ADJUSTMENT SO WHEN THROTTLE IS REDUCED TO BELOW 14' MANIFOLD PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT OCCURS), MALFUNCTION OF THE BACK UP AUTOMATIC GEAR EXTENSION SYS OF SMA IN SPITE OF MULTIPLE TRIAL OF REPAIRS AND ADJUSTMENTS IN THE PAST, AND NON COMPLIANCE ON MY PART TO GO WITH LNDG CHKLIST DUE TO PREOCCUPATION WITH TFC.
