Narrative:

We started both engines because we expected a short taxi before departure and the aircraft had sat all night. After engine start and before taxi checklist we taxied to the south side of the ramp and called ground for taxi clearance. By this time the engine had been running for about 8 to 10 minutes. We then received an ECAM saying high egt and saw that the right engine egt had entered the 'yellow range'. I called for the checklist. As we started the checklist; the egt climbed into the 'red' zone and I shut down the engine. The throttle was at idle when the event took place. All other indications from the engine seemed normal. After the engine was shut down the egt continued to climb. After about forty seconds it peaked at about 775C. This seemed strange that after the engine was shut down the egt continued to climb. We called ramp control to see if they could see any smoke coming from the engine.
