Narrative:

We had been cleared to leave our spot and to taxi to our gate. Had I not moved off of our spot well south of the lead-in line an air carrier B737 taxiing out would have hit our right wing. This ramp at night is an accident waiting to happen. I don't know if the B737 was on the wrong line or whether we should have been given a more definitive clearance; but it was uncomfortably close. I recommend that no aircraft be cleared into our gates at night with another airplane taxiing out for take off.
