Narrative:

While on a visual approach; the gear failed to extend normally. We did a fly by of the runway to [allow] tower [to] see if gear was down; it was not. We declared an emergency and were vectored to the east of the airport. The pilot not flying began to run the alternate gear extension checklist in the QRH. After selecting the emergency blow down lever; nothing happened. The pilot not flying then proceeded on to the emergency free fall portion of the QRH and again; nothing happened. He then went back to the emergency blow down lever and the gear swung. Prior to landing we asked tower to verify that they saw our landing lights on as a final verification of what we saw as three gears down and locked. We landed with crash fire and rescue on the taxi ways without further incident.
