Narrative:

At outer marker on final approach; night VFR visual approach; with flaps at 15 and just prior to gear extension; we lost hydraulic fluid and pressure in the right hydraulic system. Attempt was made to lower landing gear with the gear handle; but gear remained up and locked. Alternate gear extension handle was pulled and gear came down and locked. Flaps were lowered to 40 degrees. Decision to land was made and an emergency was declared with tower. After uneventful landing; crash fire rescue equipment personnel inspected the aircraft and noted the landing gear doors were down and that there was significant fluid dripping from the tail area. Maintenance personnel were called and they installed gear pins and latched the main landing gear doors in the up position. Aircraft was towed to the gate and all passengers were deplaned without incident.
