Narrative:

Chicago approach was giving us radar vectors for runway 28 in ord. Our last clearance was on base leg. Fly heading 360 descend and maintain 2500'. The controller apparently forgot to turn us to join the localizer. The last clearance he gave left us in a steep descent toward parallel traffic on runway 27L. We realized he was not going to issue a turn as we were approaching localizer intercept and immediately called ATC requesting a turn or visual approach. We immediately turned to rejoin the runway 28 approach course and slowed our descent. We saw the parallel traffic on TCAS and then received a TA. The controller was very apologetic for his mistake and apologized twice more before handing us off to tower. Cause; ATC forgot about us.
