Narrative:
[I] obtained clearance which includes ruddy three departure from teb runway 24. Initial altitude restriction is 1;500 ft at wentz; then via 280 degree track to tasca; cross at 2;000 ft or assigned. Just prior to wentz; I was given a frequency change to departure. After switching; they (departure) told me to go back to tower. [I] was given a new frequency number and called them. It was right then that I realized I was crossing wentz at 2;000 ft and not 1;500 ft. I was given a stern warning; told to stay at 2;000 ft; and preceded to a new waypoint. I believe the mix-up in the radio frequencies took my eyes off the altimeter. Next time I will put departure frequency into the autopilot/flight director so as not to make that mistake ever again.
