Narrative:
[I was] assigned work card for #2 engine magnetic chips [check]/idg filter [change]. Inadvertently performed work on #1 engine instead of the assigned #2 engine. Notified local maintenance management and was advised that the #2 engine magnetic chips/idg filter has been re-scheduled. Will document work performed on #1 engine on non-routine card. This is best described as a simple mistake. However; just prior to performing the work; I hit my head on the main landing gear door while wiping the struts; which did daze me momentarily. This is also my first night on graveyard and I have only been back in maintenance approximately 3 months after many years in management.
