Narrative:

I was called to the gate for a B757-200 aircraft with a door-3Left [that] would not disarm. I observed the disarmed/armed lever in the middle position; slide light 'off' and the door lever in the closed position. I pulled off the door bustle and moved the disarmed/armed lever back and forth with some difficult and observe the grit bar moving with slide light coming 'on/off' in sequence. I was able to move the disarmed/armed lever to the disarmed position and move the door open/close lever to open. Once past the door 'open' lever detent; I heard a click noise and a hissing sound and felt the door opening on it own. I held the door back; so the grit bar would not activate the slide. Another mechanic came to my assistance and he was trying to disconnect the girt bar from the door jam. After a few minutes and no success in disconnecting the grit bar; the door moved outward and began to deploy the slide.
