Narrative:

Looking at google earth; I found the neighborhood from which the laser originated. As it was an isolated area of neighborhood-type lights completely surrounded by darkness (as in open terrain) it was easy to find on google earth. The actual coordinates for the approximate center of the neighborhood are: N26-55.2/W080-13.4. Our aircraft was illuminated several times from the ground by what appeared to be a green laser. We were at level cruise; southbound; FL230; approximate position phord on the anney 1 STAR to mia. The laser appeared to be in a built-up area directly ahead of us by what appeared to be 20 miles or so (I haven't measured the distance); that was somewhat isolated; surrounded by dark; presumably open terrain. The weather was clear with unlimited (> 50 miles) visibility. I recorded the FMC position when we were directly over the area where the laser appeared to come from: N26-51.7/W080-11.4. We were illuminated at least three times; after which I blocked the area from my vision by my hand until it was out of our field of view so as to prevent further exposure. Although the flashes were brilliant and strong (surprisingly; from the distance away); I suffered no apparent damage; neither did my first officer.
