Narrative:

This report refers to the new orleans VFR sectional chart. The old pfn VORTAC is still depicted on the current chart. Pfn VORTAC was decommissioned and there is a NOTAM to that effect. The problem lies in the fact that the new hll VORTAC is broadcasting on the same frequency (114.3) as the old pfn VORTAC but is in a different location; approximately 5 miles south of the old location. This new location (hll) is close to the tyndall air force base; 300 degrees for 6 miles and southwest of the extended centerlines of tyndall's runways 31L and 31R. Currently the only notams addressing this issue are one that states that pfn has been decommissioned and one that states that hll has been commissioned. There is the potential for a pilot using the information as published on the current VFR sectional to navigate to a point other than the one he intended and that point (hll) is in close proximity to the jet traffic at tyndall air force base. The current new orleans sectional chart remains valid through 17 nov 11. The proximate civilian airfield is ecp; northwest florida beaches intl. A timely NOTAM regarding this situation might help prevent someone from making a navigational error.

Title: The reporter advised that PFN VOR is still on the New Orleans Sectional Chart despite having been decommissioned since the chart was published. Reporter notes that the newly commissioned HLL VOR; five miles south of PFN and just south of the approach/departure paths of the KPAM AFB northwest/southeast runways utilizes the same frequency (114.3) as did PFN before it was decomissioned. Both situations are currently NOTAMed and the Sectional in question will be revised within six weeks.
