Narrative:

On the approach; when extending the landing gear normally; the nose gear did not extend (no green light). Leveled at 1;500 ft and asked tower to vector us away from traffic so we could resolve the problem. Climbed to 2;000 ft and were vectored over the ocean. Advised lead flight attendant and passengers of the issue and then had first officer run appropriate checklist while I flew the aircraft and talked to ATC. Nose gear was heard extending using the alternate method and green light came on. First officer flew an uneventful landing.
