Narrative:

Climbing out around 85 NM from our departure airport the aircraft was through FL250 when the tail compt temperature high annunciator illuminated. The QRH checklist was followed and the left throttle being retarded was the only way the annunciator extinguished. A return to the departure airport was initiated and the return to the field was successful. Upon inspection from the maintenance personnel; the ducting line was found to be missing a clamp allowing air to escape into the tail compartment.

Title: A MD80's TAIL COMPT TEMP HIGH alerted on climb out so an emergency was declared and the flight returned to the departure airport where Maintenance found a disconnected air duct allowing hot air directly into the tail compartment.
