Narrative:

We were landing on 26L and when we received landing clearance from tower we were told that runway 30 was not available; we weren't landing on that [runway] anyway. At about 500 ft we noticed an A340 taxiing on what we thought was a taxiway. When we flared and were about to touch down we noticed that the A340 was on runway 30 and looked as if he wouldn't stop prior to crossing our runway. I told the first officer firmly that the A340 wasn't stopping and he would be in our path on rollout. At that point the first officer applied the brakes very firmly and brought us to a quick stop at taxiway echo. When we started to roll again and cleared on echo we looked towards the A340 which had now come to a stop and he was just feet from the runway and well past the hold short lines we just crossed. I asked ground when clear if the A-340 was told to hold short; the answer was he is holding short. Too close for my liking. But there are no hold short lines on runway 30 and I am not sure how the A340 would know where they are. As it was he was approaching our runway; and he must have realized we were landing on the runway in front of him when he saw us flare.

Title: B737 Captain landing Runway 26L at CYVR reports conflict with an A340 taxiing on Runway 30 with instructions to hold short of Runway 26L. Heavy braking is used to stop before the intersection and the A340 stops just feet from Runway 26L; well passt the hold short line.
