Narrative:

In cruise at FL340; the crew smelled a strong acrid electrical smell in both the cockpit and aft cabin. Flight attendants were consulted and confirmed smells with increased intensity. An emergency was declared with ATC and dispatch was notified. A decision was made to descend into a nearby airport and have emergency equipment standing by. After running the smoke and fumes QRH checklist; we landed normally at approximately 217;000 pounds gross weight with mild breaking and soft touchdown. Rolled to the end of the runway; where emergency firefighter crews inspected the aircraft and found no visible evidence of smoke or fire. We then taxied to the gate where we were inspected on the interior by the fire crew. Maintenance was then brought to the aircraft and eqpt clg flow and eqpt clg fan status messages were displayed with eqpt ovht caution message while troubleshooting. Also; the equipment cooling supply fan circuit breaker popped while at the gate. All SOP's were followed and the aircraft was left in an un-powered state for overnight parking.
