Narrative:

This report is of a systemic issue that was highlighted by a specific event. The systemic issue: outdated and unsafe equipment: our radar scopes. The event: a very busy session in the TRACON.in simplest terms the safety issue is that the ARTS data tag font on the smallest setting is too big. The event involved several aircraft within 10 miles of each other. It was very difficult and time consuming to separate all the tags such that they were all visible. Many times the data overlapped such that callsigns; altitudes and/or airspeeds were impossible to read. Immediately reduce the font size of the smallest ARTS text. Feel free to get rid of the largest font size (must be equivalent to size 75 and is completely unnecessary. Long term: replace the radar scopes.
