Narrative:

After establishing the aircraft on final approach to runway 20; the final flap setting was selected (approximately 25 degrees); and at the recommendation of the flight instructor the throttle was pulled to the 'full closed' position. A brief second after the throttle setting was selected; the engine instruments indicated a complete power loss and the propeller came to an abrupt stop. After the power failure occurred; both the pfd and the mfd lost power went off line; and then immediately began a re-initialization process. There was enough altitude at the point of failure for a normal glide to the runway and upon touching down it took approximately two minutes to start the engine and taxi clear of the runway. The aircraft will undergo an FBO mandated inspection by a rotax certified mechanic before flight instruction will commence again. Post incident; the aircraft was returned to the owner.
