Narrative:

After a ground hold and clearance being changed twice; we were issued a clearance of runway 24 ruudy 2 RNAV departure white intersection and the jet airway after that. After departure we were given a couple of headings then cleared to elvae intersection and nothing after that. We proceeded to elvae intersection and after passing elvae proceeded to white intersection per the original clearance. After a couple of minutes ATC asked what the previous controller gave us for a clearance was and responded the previous controller gave us elvae white and he said that wasn't right and gave us a heading to join col 350 radial to colts neck. He said we should have gone elvae col 350 radial col then white. On the chart of the ruudy 2 it says on the routing for departure fix white to expect vectors to elvae/col/white. I thought that if they wanted us to go to col after elvae that would have been in the clearance since all of it was an expect vectors to: on the departure. I should have questioned the controller about the clearance after elvae; but at the same time it was busy with convective active in the area also; I thought that ATC was supposed to issue the whole clearance if it is an 'expect' on the chart; not just the first fix of the 'expect'.

Title: DA2000 flight crew reports misunderstanding the RUUDY2 departure procedures after being vectored to ELVAE. The routing after ELVAE should be COL then WHITE but the crew went ELVAE then WHITE.
