Narrative:

After 3 events of what appeared to be wake turbulence causing moderate turbulence in our descent to jfk; I queried ATC if we were following a heavy aircraft. He responded yes; an A340. I advised him of our encounters and his response was; 'I can't change the wings on that aircraft.' I made no further response; not wanting to clog up the frequency debating our situation; but had hoped he would consider our problem and the safety issue in regards to exposing passengers and cabin crew to unnecessary turbulence which is the sole reason for this report.
