A mechanic reported a lack of clarity in their maintenance manual chapter 57-50-42 for installation of a laminated washer at the outboard support strap for # 5 flap track on a dhc-8-100 aircraft. The outboard flap tracks had been removed due to lightning strikes magnetizing the tracks.

Narrative:
Installing [outboard] flap tracks; following maintenance manual 57-50-51. Figure 201 does not clearly show where shim (laminated washer # 9) is installed per maintenance manual step-3a; page 203. Another mechanic installing track and I noticed difference in installation; then we went to blueprint drawing; noticed shim installation was clearly shown. Followed maintenance manual; but question on track installation. [I] talked to chief inspector about differences in maintenance manual and blue print drawing. [I am] submitting maintenance manual change to clarify figure 201.
