Narrative:

In cruise at FL370 we heard a loud noise and the aircraft yawed slightly. The left engine rolled back and then recovered less than a minute later. We received an oil clog ECAM #1 message and briefly noted a faint smell oil. Initiated descent to FL330 and I assumed radios as pilot flying and the captain; as pilot monitoring; ran the ECAM/QRH. All parameters were normal with the exception of the oil clog message. We consulted with maintenance and elected to divert. While descending the engine again stalled and the captain elected to shut it down; declared an emergency and requested diversion. The engine was secured and passengers and flight attendants notified. We encountered moderate icing from 6;000 through 3;000 ft; landed at night on a wet runway with gusty winds and taxied to gate without incident.
