Narrative:

At FL360; heard a loud report and discovered captain's fixed side window to have fractured throughout its entire surface area. We descended to lower altitude and performed the non-normal procedures. Because of our proximity to ZZZ and our weight; we elected to divert to ZZZ. Emergency was declared; dispatch; cabin crew and passengers were advised. Although staffing at ZZZ was limited; a replacement aircraft was available shortly after our arrival; and despite the hard work and help on the part of the staff and our controlling dispatcher; the turn time was 2:38. Delays included waiting for jetway; repositioning of damaged aircraft; waiting on fueling and finally waiting for final west/B numbers at the runway. We should be able to do better.
