Narrative:

Thirteen minutes before pushback the new dangerous goods sheet printed. I saw I had aircraft batteries on board. I have had trouble with ramp properly loading dangerous goods so I went out to check. The batteries were in plastic containers sitting loose in the cargo bay. I asked about securing them; but was told there was no way to do it and this is how they are always sent. It's not my area of expertise; so I took the aircraft. Once at cruise I found the fom says dangerous goods are to be secured. Sitting loose in a cargo bay is not secured. I am getting leery of accepting dangerous goods as ramp does not seem to know how to properly load them. A few months ago I had 30 some boxes of highly corrosive liquid loose in the bulk cargo area of a B767. In that instance I had ramp tape them all together so they could not turn upside down. We need a method of securing dangerous goods if we are to continue to take them on board our aircraft.
