Narrative:

Blue laser cockpit illumination from ground source at 3 o'clock position; approximately 1-2 miles from aircraft. Laser hit reported to ATC. I was pilot not flying; first officer. Captain hand flying the tip-toe visual to sfo. I was startled but did not experience pain at that point. Normal landing/taxi followed. Reported event to duty manager and dispatch per fom. Mild discomfort of right eye followed. I was told a opthalmologic exam required prior to returning to work; and was advised who to call if I wanted to have the company pay it. This was my first laser illumination. It was not as bright as expected; but quite distracting.
