Narrative:

On the takeoff roll the first officer's side window popped open and slid to full aft position. He managed to close and latch the window prior to 80 KTS. On climbout he reported a loud squeal from the window and discovered his headset cord had become entangled in the upper aft part of the window and inhibited a good seal. We leveled at 7;000 ft and requested return to our departure airport. Conferred with dispatch for landing data and maintenance control regarding our expected overweight landing. Landing was normal and soft.the first officer reported he did not open the window at any time prior to the incident. We were unable to determine if the window was unlatched prior to his duties or if it was a mechanical failure of the window latch.

Title: A B737-800 First Officer failed to note his cockpit window was not securely latched until it opened on takeoff roll. His attempt to resecure it failed when his headset cord was caught and caused an excessively loud pressure leak. A return to the departure airport was necessary.
