Narrative:

Aircraft X checked in on my frequency and I did not hear the pilot say the word 'emergency' at the end of his call sign. Based on his position on/over the airport; I gave the instruction of left traffic for runway xl. The aircraft then responded with a request for runway xr. I coordinated and gave the aircraft the instruction to make right traffic for runway xr and contact tower. The aircraft responded; again with the word emergency quickly attached to his call sign; then asked for the frequency again. I reissued the frequency and the pilot responded and contacted the [south local controller]. Recommendation; listen more carefully.

Narrative: Aircraft X checked in on my frequency and I did not hear the pilot say the word 'emergency' at the end of his call sign.
