Narrative:

On climb out we began to level off at 5000' as assigned. Simultaneously as we began to level off; we first got autothrottle fail and the autopilot disengaged. This was followed by aural caution and 'throttle throttle'. The throttles were split; one came back for the level off to maintain speed; and one did not. My main goal was to make sure the airplane leveled; we started to reach for QRH; silenced the warning. During this; ATC was issuing us a climb to a higher altitude. During this time the airspeed went to 280 and was then pulled back to 250 once things were silenced.
