Gyroscopic instrument failure of vacuum operated instruments in IMC. Emergency declared by ATC. [We were] vectored for an approach. No damage to aircraft or ground facilities. ATC did a very good job of handling the situation.

Title: A C172 vacuum system failed causing the loss of vacuum powered instruments. An emergency was declared and ATC vectored him for an approach.
