Narrative:

On a ferry flight with aircraft located at the maintenance hangar and aircraft cabin configured for ferry flight with doors 1L and 1R slides armed. Had a problem with APU during start; so maintenance came to cockpit via aft door. Another mechanic subsequently came on board and needed to talk with somebody on the ground. While we were in the cockpit he went to door 1R and opened door with slide still armed. Slide deployed as it was [designed] to do.
