Narrative:

Eaa convention--takeoff after air show from runway 18 and taxiway parallel to 18. Aircraft divided at intersection passed intersection and was at point X when given flag for takeoff. Aircraft ahead of me off ground with normal takeoff spacing. Flagman waved me down after about 2 seconds acceleration at full throttle. Stopped and waved off again, this time ok. What I believed happened is that with the taxiway clear for takeoff and violent down and forward flag I mistook taxi direction for takeoff. (I've flown into eaa convention every yr for at least 15 yrs.) I was stopped because of conflicting traffic on runway 18 taking off. Runway 18 was not visible from pilot's seat. Suggest flagman do not make violent motions with flag in takeoff area unless they want plane to take off. Be especially careful where there is sep between runways. If this had happened on runway 27 when procedure is to form 2 lines on same runway, righthand plane would have been identified by me and watched for and would have been visible almost immediately on his roll. I never did see this traffic on its roll.

Title: SMA PLT MISTOOK FLAGMAN SIGNAL TO TAXI INTO POSITION AND HOLD AS TKOF CLRNC, WAS FLAGGED TO A STOP AFTER TKOF STARTED.

Narrative: EAA CONVENTION--TKOF AFTER AIR SHOW FROM RWY 18 AND TXWY PARALLEL TO 18. ACFT DIVIDED AT INTXN PASSED INTXN AND WAS AT POINT X WHEN GIVEN FLAG FOR TKOF. ACFT AHEAD OF ME OFF GND WITH NORMAL TKOF SPACING. FLAGMAN WAVED ME DOWN AFTER ABOUT 2 SECS ACCELERATION AT FULL THROTTLE. STOPPED AND WAVED OFF AGAIN, THIS TIME OK. WHAT I BELIEVED HAPPENED IS THAT WITH THE TXWY CLR FOR TKOF AND VIOLENT DOWN AND FORWARD FLAG I MISTOOK TAXI DIRECTION FOR TKOF. (I'VE FLOWN INTO EAA CONVENTION EVERY YR FOR AT LEAST 15 YRS.) I WAS STOPPED BECAUSE OF CONFLICTING TFC ON RWY 18 TAKING OFF. RWY 18 WAS NOT VISIBLE FROM PLT'S SEAT. SUGGEST FLAGMAN DO NOT MAKE VIOLENT MOTIONS WITH FLAG IN TKOF AREA UNLESS THEY WANT PLANE TO TAKE OFF. BE ESPECIALLY CAREFUL WHERE THERE IS SEP BTWN RWYS. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON RWY 27 WHEN PROC IS TO FORM 2 LINES ON SAME RWY, RIGHTHAND PLANE WOULD HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED BY ME AND WATCHED FOR AND WOULD HAVE BEEN VISIBLE ALMOST IMMEDIATELY ON HIS ROLL. I NEVER DID SEE THIS TFC ON ITS ROLL.
