Narrative:

Cleared to land runway 14L iah. Tower advised widebody transport to be departing runway prior to our landing. As we approached runway we (both pilots) felt it would be prudent to request a shorter parallel runway (14R) due to proximity of departing widebody transport. We requested and were cleared to land on runway 14R. Tower then came back and said we could land on runway 8. Since it was an easy maneuver, I accepted. About the time we lined up with the runway, I saw an aircraft on landing rollout on runway 26 (opposite direction). Tower advised us to go around as we were executing the maneuver at approximately 500'. We were then cleared to land on runway 26 west/O incident. Tower, in an effort to be accommodating, didn't realize (or forgot) about aircraft rolling out on runway 26.

Title: ACR MLG WAS GIVEN GO AROUND DUE TO ACFT ON RWY THAT HAD LANDED OPPOSITE DIRECTION.

Narrative: CLRED TO LAND RWY 14L IAH. TWR ADVISED WDB TO BE DEPARTING RWY PRIOR TO OUR LNDG. AS WE APCHED RWY WE (BOTH PLTS) FELT IT WOULD BE PRUDENT TO REQUEST A SHORTER PARALLEL RWY (14R) DUE TO PROX OF DEPARTING WDB. WE REQUESTED AND WERE CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 14R. TWR THEN CAME BACK AND SAID WE COULD LAND ON RWY 8. SINCE IT WAS AN EASY MANEUVER, I ACCEPTED. ABOUT THE TIME WE LINED UP WITH THE RWY, I SAW AN ACFT ON LNDG ROLLOUT ON RWY 26 (OPPOSITE DIRECTION). TWR ADVISED US TO GO AROUND AS WE WERE EXECUTING THE MANEUVER AT APPROX 500'. WE WERE THEN CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 26 W/O INCIDENT. TWR, IN AN EFFORT TO BE ACCOMMODATING, DIDN'T REALIZE (OR FORGOT) ABOUT ACFT ROLLING OUT ON RWY 26.
