Narrative:

Upon taxi for takeoff for runway 21 at cho, we held at intersection east for nearly 15 mins behind an small aircraft who was waiting at a hold line for his intersection departure. After he was cleared onto the runway, we proceeded to taxi the remaining 1700' down to the end of the runway for our full length runway departure. Since there was no irregular displaced hold line found on the airport diagram, we assumed that there would be another hold line within the next 1700' of taxi to the end of runway 21. Ground then advised us that we had crossed the hold line for the entire runway 3-21 and that we would have to taxi back via the runway and again hold behind the line at intersection east. This hold line at intersection east is painted on the pavement and is marked '3-21.' however, it appears as though the line is for the intersection and not for the full length which is another 1700' to the end of the runway. A sign saying, 'all aircraft hold here for ATC clearance,' or even a notation on the airport diagram about the irregular displaced hold line would have kept us from making the mistake of crossing the hold line. Supplemental information from acn 92034: this hold line is new. There was a hold line at runway end (at F) that has been recently blacked out. Although new hold line is clearly marked, it is in a rather unusual place for an IFR hold line. Should have a sign saying something to the effect, 'all IFR departures hold here.'

Title: TXWY MARKING DOES NOT INDICATE HOLD LINE FOR CLRNC.

Narrative: UPON TAXI FOR TKOF FOR RWY 21 AT CHO, WE HELD AT INTXN E FOR NEARLY 15 MINS BEHIND AN SMA WHO WAS WAITING AT A HOLD LINE FOR HIS INTXN DEP. AFTER HE WAS CLRED ONTO THE RWY, WE PROCEEDED TO TAXI THE REMAINING 1700' DOWN TO THE END OF THE RWY FOR OUR FULL LENGTH RWY DEP. SINCE THERE WAS NO IRREGULAR DISPLACED HOLD LINE FOUND ON THE ARPT DIAGRAM, WE ASSUMED THAT THERE WOULD BE ANOTHER HOLD LINE WITHIN THE NEXT 1700' OF TAXI TO THE END OF RWY 21. GND THEN ADVISED US THAT WE HAD CROSSED THE HOLD LINE FOR THE ENTIRE RWY 3-21 AND THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO TAXI BACK VIA THE RWY AND AGAIN HOLD BEHIND THE LINE AT INTXN E. THIS HOLD LINE AT INTXN E IS PAINTED ON THE PAVEMENT AND IS MARKED '3-21.' HOWEVER, IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THE LINE IS FOR THE INTXN AND NOT FOR THE FULL LENGTH WHICH IS ANOTHER 1700' TO THE END OF THE RWY. A SIGN SAYING, 'ALL ACFT HOLD HERE FOR ATC CLRNC,' OR EVEN A NOTATION ON THE ARPT DIAGRAM ABOUT THE IRREGULAR DISPLACED HOLD LINE WOULD HAVE KEPT US FROM MAKING THE MISTAKE OF XING THE HOLD LINE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 92034: THIS HOLD LINE IS NEW. THERE WAS A HOLD LINE AT RWY END (AT F) THAT HAS BEEN RECENTLY BLACKED OUT. ALTHOUGH NEW HOLD LINE IS CLEARLY MARKED, IT IS IN A RATHER UNUSUAL PLACE FOR AN IFR HOLD LINE. SHOULD HAVE A SIGN SAYING SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT, 'ALL IFR DEPS HOLD HERE.'
