Narrative:

Captain landed on 6R. Slowed to taxi speed lined up with taxiway right. Captain turned right looking out my window I saw nothing but a plethora of blue and green taxi lights. Something didn't look right. I looked down at one of the blue lights to my right and realized it was a raised taxiway edge light. I said 'stop!' [I] pointed out our situation to the captain. We requested airport operations help with the tower. We ended up opting for tug assistance. Maintenance pushed us back onto the runway. We taxied to the gate without further incident. I predict that someone else will not be so lucky. It is likely someone will end up in the dirt at that intersection. Suggest a ball note on the 10-9.

Title: After landing on Runway 6R at LAX an air carrier Captain attempted to turn directly to Taxiway Romeo; unaware that Romeo did not connect directly to the runway proper. The First Officer warned the Captain prior to exiting the paved surface but a tow was required to extricate them from their dilemma.
