Narrative:
On approach at 2;300 ft we received a RA with a climb rate of 1;500 to 1;800 ft. We climbed and avoided the traffic. There was nothing that we could have done we did not paint the target. It appeared red; showed 200 ft below and gave a climb command all at the same time. We never saw the traffic.

Title: A CRJ200 Captain reported taking evasive action to a TCAS RA from a target which passed 200 FT below them on a perpendicular course but was not visible to the crew.
Narrative: On approach at 2;300 FT we received a RA with a climb rate of 1;500 to 1;800 FT. We climbed and avoided the traffic. There was nothing that we could have done we did not paint the target. It appeared red; showed 200 FT below and gave a climb command all at the same time. We never saw the traffic.
