Narrative:
As we were starting #2 engine at the gate the APU failed and immediately thereafter ground/ramp personnel informed us we had a fire on the right hand engine. I aborted the start and evacuated the airplane which was still at the gate with the jetbridge attached. I ran the qrc for on ground emergencies and shut down the airplane.

Title: Following the loss of the APU; a Q-400 Flight Crew was advised by ground personnel of a fire in the right engine when the engine start procedure was subsequently interrupted.
Narrative: As we were starting #2 engine at the gate the APU failed and immediately thereafter ground/ramp personnel informed us we had a fire on the right hand engine. I aborted the start and evacuated the airplane which was still at the gate with the jetbridge attached. I ran the QRC for on ground emergencies and shut down the airplane.
