Narrative:

First officer [was] pilot flying. After selecting gear up we received multiple master cautions and ECAM messages; aircraft goes into alternate law while pitch becomes erratic. ECAM displays flight control stabilizer jam. After completing takeoff check list we proceeded with QRH and ECAM procedures; while continuing with the departure I advised ATC that we have a flight control problem and we will be leveling off at 10;000 ft and a 060 heading for an extended downwind with a return to airport. Initially trim wheel had become frozen; from 8 to 10;000 ft we were able to move trim wheel and level aircraft off at 10;000 ft. After level off we reviewed QRH/landing performance. We notified flight attendants of a slight problem with the flight controls and [that we would] be returning to the airport; a normal approach and landing anticipated; passengers were also notified in this manner. After an uneventful landing we were instructed to taxi on whiskey hold short of taxiway zulu. Aircraft was determined safe and taxied to the terminal without further incident.
