Narrative:

It was early july morning. There was little traffic around. We were cleared for takeoff on runway 27L at ord with a right turn to 290 degrees to maintain 5000'. We had reached an altitude of 1000' AGL. When the tower gave us a clearance of 'out of 3000', right turn to 090 degrees, contact departure control 125.0.' during the right turn we saw another aircraft approximately over the OM for runway 14R. We were above 4000' when departure control gave us a left turn to 180 degrees. Since we were well above the landing aircraft, we advised departure control of that and they said to continued the right turn to 090 degrees. There was no near miss, but a possible traffic conflict may have occurred. Departure control asked whether the tower had given us a right or left turn. In the cockpit, we obviously believed that it was a right turn. If there was a misunderstanding of the clearance on our part the only reason that I can think of is that we were in the midst of raising the flaps and setting climb power when we got the clearance.

Title: DEPARTING WDB WAS TURNED TOWARD ANOTHER WDB ON APCH FOR ANOTHER INTERSECTING RWY.

Narrative: IT WAS EARLY JULY MORNING. THERE WAS LITTLE TFC AROUND. WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 27L AT ORD WITH A RIGHT TURN TO 290 DEGS TO MAINTAIN 5000'. WE HAD REACHED AN ALT OF 1000' AGL. WHEN THE TWR GAVE US A CLRNC OF 'OUT OF 3000', RIGHT TURN TO 090 DEGS, CONTACT DEP CTL 125.0.' DURING THE RIGHT TURN WE SAW ANOTHER ACFT APPROX OVER THE OM FOR RWY 14R. WE WERE ABOVE 4000' WHEN DEP CTL GAVE US A LEFT TURN TO 180 DEGS. SINCE WE WERE WELL ABOVE THE LNDG ACFT, WE ADVISED DEP CTL OF THAT AND THEY SAID TO CONTINUED THE RIGHT TURN TO 090 DEGS. THERE WAS NO NEAR MISS, BUT A POSSIBLE TFC CONFLICT MAY HAVE OCCURRED. DEP CTL ASKED WHETHER THE TWR HAD GIVEN US A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN. IN THE COCKPIT, WE OBVIOUSLY BELIEVED THAT IT WAS A RIGHT TURN. IF THERE WAS A MISUNDERSTANDING OF THE CLRNC ON OUR PART THE ONLY REASON THAT I CAN THINK OF IS THAT WE WERE IN THE MIDST OF RAISING THE FLAPS AND SETTING CLB PWR WHEN WE GOT THE CLRNC.
