Narrative:

Upon gear retraction in our initial climb out I as the non-flying pilot noticed the lft medium large transport indicator light was red (indicating a gear unsafe situation). The first officer continued to fly the aircraft and work the radios as we leveled off at 12;000 ft and I ran through the QRH procedures. After completing the QRH procedures without a change in results we contacted company dispatch and maintenance. We all decided the best course of action would be to divert the flight to ZZZ. We performed 1 turn in holding to burn off the fuel needed to be under 128;000 for our landing.
