Narrative:

After weight off wheels on takeoff [we] received a proximity system 1 fault status message. Then on gear retraction; crew noticed nose gear was very loud and looked longer than normal to retract. Soon received a gear disagree warning on the nose gear. Crew performed QRH. Gear would come down normally; but nose gear would not lock in the up position but would constantly cycle as though trying to retract. Returned to field for a precautionary landing. Did not declare an emergency with ATC since the important part (gear down) operated normally. Landing was uneventful.
