Narrative:

6/88, en route to san, lax center assigned a crossing restriction of cardi intersection at 10000'. On descent through approximately 12500', ATC requested our altitude. We responded out of 12500 for 10000'. They then advised us we were assigned 15000' and requested that we maintain 12000', turn left, and gave us a frequency change. After arriving in san, I called them on landline. After reviewing the tapes, they found they had assigned us 10000' by mistake. No known conflict with any other aircraft.
