Narrative:

Green laser event. VMC right downwind for 4R ord. As pilot monitoring; saw what appeared as bright white light out of right corner of my eye. Thinking it might be fireworks below; looked out to see a very bright green focused dot on the ground immediately below cockpit offset slightly right. Dot moved in a random sweep pattern laterally and vertically. Luckily the beam did not strike my eye directly when it panned up; but as I looked back into the cockpit; the beam appeared to light the right window rail once more momentarily. Notified ATC immediately. No damage or injury. Landed normally.

Title: MD80 First Officer reports green laser striking the cockpit during a visual approach to Runway 4R at ORD. There were no injuries and flight landed normally.
