Narrative:

After departing runway xx on the climb; we selected gear up. Gear disagree caution message came up and indication showed the nose gear did not retract properly. We could hear the nose doors activating and nose gear icon was red. I was non flying pilot so the captain flew the aircraft and worked the radios while I executed the QRH for the gear disagree. We were able to get all three gear down and locked. We declared an emergency and returned. Due to a steering inop message; we came to a full stop on the runway and were towed back to gate. There were no further events.
