Narrative:

Climbing out of FL320 EICAS displayed fwd cargo door with the cargo doors light in the overhead. B767 fwd cargo door QRH checklist was followed. Declared an emergency with ATC and requested direct ZZZ and lower altitude. While in a descent; I advised the flight attendants to prepare the cabin for landing; then attempted to contact dispatch several times; then contacted ZZZ operations. Advised them of our situation and asked them to advise dispatch. I briefed the flight attendants and made a PA to the passengers. Descending below 7;500 ft; fwd cargo door light went out. Aircraft was unpressurized below 9;500 ft. An overweight landing was made. After landing; crash fire rescue equipment crews inspected the brakes and door; then we taxied to gate.
