Narrative:

While taxiing into position on runway 07 at mth the crew mistook badly faded runway markings as a usable taxi surface. The crew realized the surface markings were actually yellow chevrons which designated the area as a unusable surface. The crew quickly applied power and rolled off the surface and initiated the takeoff roll. The surface was marred with tire markings from other aircraft that had used this area as well; which led to further confusion on the part of the crew.
